Who is the preferred UK supplier of standard oil pumps or are they all the same? I wish to ditch the HP/HF one thats fitted to my car.

Probably all the same: QED or Burton maybe the largest stockists.

I did the same when I bought my S3 back after 18 years. The engine was freshly rebuilt and brilliant, but the team that did it fitted a HC / HP pump, which I'm not a lover of.
I would urge you to find a good, original standard Fomoco unit, either with Burman, or the other manufacturer (I'll remember who that is shortly and edit) cast into the alloy body. . Someone on here gave me that advice a few years ago.
I found a very good original one on Ebay, which had belonged to an ex Formula Ford 1600 racer.
Clean as a whistle, blueprinted, and worked perfectly, ie better than a standard one. bang on 40 psi at 3000rpm or over, and 25 psi at hot idle.
I compared the original to the almost new HP one, and they're definitely not as good quality these days.

The other supplier was Hobourn Eaton. I was lucky to find a NOS one on ebay. Used ones occasionally turn up but the ones I got were junk...

There are a couple of used ones on ebay at the moment (mostly spin on, and one Anglia paper element type, which is useless without the canister). As I said, I didn't have much luck with used ones. On one the pressure relief valve was missing, and on the other the rotor was too worn. YMMV.
