Ford BDT based twin cam?

PostPost by: dunclentdr1 » Mon Aug 28, 2023 9:00 pm

I have bought a very pretty sports racer (Nerus Silhouette, 1968) that seems to have a BDT block, twin cam head and apparently puts out 200bhp with 1940cc capacity. I gather BDT blocks were used in RS200 cars.

Does anyone know of a twin cam head being fitted to a BDG block?

200bhp sounds like fun in an Elan.

Thanks
David

Here is a 2.2l BDG Twin Cam http://www.wilcoxengines.co.uk/twincam.htm Is there much of a difference between the BDG and BDT?

Thanks Fred - that looks a very similar spec - I don't know about the various BD blocks, hoping others do...

The BD blocks were all based on the 1500 / 1600 Kent blocks. Depending on the blocks origin and whether it is alloy or cast iron there will be differences in the casting detail but still basically a Kent 1600 for most functional purposes. The biggest difference will be the oil cross passage between cylinders 2 and 3 which is deleted on the big bore blocks as there is no room for it

My Modus F3 car was Brett Riley's 1976 seat in UK F3 race series, fitted initially w/ a 2 liter twin cam, but as funds dried up, he was forced to go to a Triumph Dolemite lump.. Over the winter of '76-77, the Modus was sold into the USA as a roller, less engine. John Fowler converted the car to a front running car in SCCA's Formula C, under 1100 cc with an injected Cosworth BDJ engine. That used a 7.11short height block and a BD head. I have a BDH engine (1300 cc) that also uses the 711 short height block.,but these blocks do not have some of the extra pressure,"freeze plugs" and other ports that your block has. Perhaps the 2 liter F3 engine may have used that block.
