Exhaust Header Gaskets

PostPost by: EricB » Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:53 pm

Did a search on the forum regarding exhaust header gaskets and I see someone makes reference to using the VW Air Cooled Beetle ones which is what I have used in the past and worked very well..

Will be needing new gaskets after we finish some engine work. Is that still the best option? Or are there different Beetle versions available.

I have used the air cooled VW gaskets. They are acceptable. I found the gaskets supplied by Dave Bean and RD enterprises (USA suppliers) last longer than the VW ones.

I , too, have used the VW gaskets and no issues. Just a reminder, that some of our suppliers offer gaskets with standard port and oversize port id's. You might wish to confirm to your supplier, your port in side diameter. Cheers. Mike.

Just to finish off this discussion, I did get a set of VW header gaskets from a local European Auto Parts supplier. They were made by Mahle, in Germany and they cost me $4.00 Canadian each. Part No. Volkswagen F14591.

Should mention the gasket is a laminate of metal on both sides with gasket material in between. Looks fairly robust.
