Crankshaft removal

Hi Members,

I'm in the middle of dismantling my engine and have the crankshaft ready to come out. The crankshaft rocks but seems to be held at each end by what appear to be seals of some kind. Pictures attached. As seems to be the case the manual is unhelpful. How should I proceed without buggering anything up?

You need to remove the front pulley and the front cover, together with the rear crankshaft oil seal carrier.

Its all in the manual.

I would have replied sooner but I am sipping my tea, with my little finger in the air.

I went to the section of the shop manual describing removal of the crankshaft but it didn't mention any of that. Perhaps it's in another section? I'll look again.

I hope the tea was leaves and that you appropriately warmed the pot. Don't want to countenance a tea bag in a cup. LOL.

Hi Phil,

I stand corrected. I'm clearly loosing it. Maybe I've inhaled too much engine degreaser. Any way, the crankshaft is out.

Nothing so grand as leaves Mike, but I am quite partial to a bit of bush in the evenings

Hi Leslie,

Yes, those were the days. My Aunt lived in Pilton Place off East street, The Old Kent Road where the market was/is. I went to Uni. in the East End - Whitechapel Road, and lived in Chadwell Heath before moving Stateside in the mid 1970s.
