Making the Recuperation bottle clean / white?

PostPost by: pharriso » Fri Oct 01, 2021 2:57 pm

I have 3 original recuperation bottles, all of which are stained a nasty brown color by age / oil / fumes:

I've tried cleaning them with soap & water, but they didn't clean up significantly.

Anyone have any ideas on what would work to remove the brown staining?

I have had success putting a discoloured windscreen washer bottle in the dishwasher. It came out looking like new.

Might take the 'Tudor' decal off though.

Look up YouTube ! Not tried them but there are a couple of informative (?) videos.

Sounds silly, but I went and got hair dye and coated the inside and outside. I went with the ultra blond dye which has lots of bleach in it. There are some videos on it on Youtube. Worked alright and was a cheap experiment.

Be careful of strong cleaners because I've found that they remove the blue Tudor labeling quicker than the yellow stain. I never found anything that worked particularly well. I decided that a pristine white bottle would look incongruous against everything else that has, um, patina, so simply got it as clean as possible, minimizing the tide mark.
