Head to Front Cover

Good morning/afternoon,

For the long bolt from the head to the front cover, does it require a lock washer or a flat washer? Parts manual is unspecific…

Original specification is just a flat washer here. No spring washer

Because there is likely oil present on the threads, does it matter that much the type of metal used in the washer? Also, thickness?

It's just a Ford standard hardware 5/16" flat washer. P/N 34746-ES

That from a “Ford Tractor Manual” 2cams70?
Not sure bout the States, but in the wasteland of Canada the old Australian Ford Tractor P/N dont work.
I do like old Ford steel! Wish I could order some stuff, a lot is still there. The local dealer still has the original Cortina Twin Cam service manuals on their shelf FWiW

If your worried about the cover bolts coming loose use a spring washer or a lower strength loctite thread locker on the bolt threads, I would not use a high strength thread locker on the aluminium front cover threads
