Replacement cooling fan

PostPost by: englishmaninwales » Tue Jul 20, 2021 1:06 pm

1966 S3 with the wide Triumph / Stanpart radiator.
Following a blade letting go on my massive, but highly effective, non standard set up stolen from the 1970 Fiat range of saloons, with the blade damaging the radiator ( getting repaired) in the process, I’m looking for a replacement fan, I saw this:
https://paulmattysportscars.co.uk/produ ... -radiator/
Anybody tried it and is it up to the job? Do I need two? I’m told by PMSC parts it has reversible polarity, so push or pull?
The car is in regular daily use throughout the UK summer.
Thanks for any advice.

The fan blades have dimples? I think on a golf ball they add lift, but why on a fan blade? :?
We are supposed to be having fun, are we not?

Hi Malcolm

I have a Coolex aluminium rad on my car of the normal Sprint size and a 10 inch version of the fan that PM sells. Cooling is not a problem. My fan came from SVC and I notice that their prices are higher than PM.

If I had the wider rad like you have I would probably go for 2 fans just because you can but 1 fan works for me.

I would also configure them as pullers given a choice because it is better for the airflow.

Ref the comment on the dimples on the fan blades. My understanding is that golf balls have dimples to reduce the drag and allow them to go further. Dimples on a fan blade will presumably reduce the drag and allow the fan to produce more airflow.

Bet that made your bum warm David

The coolexpert radiators are very good, I have a Tony Thompson in mine, but only because I didn't know about the coolexpert ones at the time.

I’m certain it’s not within navy regulations to light your own farts during a flight. You must be a very windy fellow!

How dimples work:

https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... n-golf-ba/

This, however mya differ somewhat for the fan since the motion of the blade and the airflow around it is different to that of a back-spinning ball.
