Heater controls Elan +2

PostPost by: martynw » Tue Dec 29, 2020 12:28 am

I'm struggling to get my +2 heater control cables set up and operating the flaps effectively, and suspect it is the orientation in which the lever controls are fitted to the dash. I've refitted them as they were fitted to the old dash, but as they didn't actually do anything then I wonder if they had just been bunged in the wrong way up by a previous owner.

To get them right, I wonder if anyone could tell me

(1) should the control cables should leave the rear of the controls heading towards the LHS of the car (i.e. where the control leavers on the heater box are) or towards the RHS in order to allow a larger diameter loop?

(2) which control lever should have the positive "click stops", and which slide smoothly. I'm guessing clicks should be on the direction, but realise mine are on temperature..

I'm also aware the manual (image below) shows the cables leaving towards the LHS, but the photos in the thread below show them going the other way.

Any help much appreciated.

When I rebuilt mine the controls were also upside down and yes, the detent should be for the direction lever. I also found that a much smoother action was attained by having the cables first sweep to the right before curving around and down the levers on the left.

Thanks Robbie. Nice to find my hunch was right (or as right as anything ever is in a Lotus) but not so nice to get confirmation the dash has to come out again...

Yes cables go to the right and swing to left over the top of heater box.

Oh no, that's a drag. It may be possible to get the controls flipped over without disconnecting all the wiring though...

Good luck with it
