Rope seal substute

I have an early s3 Elan with a rope seal. I installed a white type seal and it creates a serious drag when I turn the engine buy hand. I have read where a Pontiac rear seal has been used to replace the normal kit seals we get. Does anyone have information on the Best Gasket item # for this seal. There has also been comments on a Kevlar reinforced type of replacement seal. Does anyone have information on where to get this seal material.

Try Keith Franck at vintage technology garage.
Most of Keith’s work is with carburettors, but he also runs this other site, and he is pretty sure he has a good result on his Elan with the type of seal you are looking for.
Keith is in the San Francisco area.
Hope this helps,
Richard Hawkins

if that doesn't work, search for io groups and vintage technology garage
once in a messages a search for rope seal will bring up posts within on the topic - one includes a good article about the Best Gasket product Rob suggested.

racers do, too, around here ... or they'll have to run with period H cars as rope seal is compulsory under period F FIA rules

...and don’t forget the 6 bolt crank!
I did this conversion 3 years ago after losing the will to live with rope seals over many years with the last two Elans I have owned!
