Transverse exhaust

I’m trying to fit a new s/s exhaust (transverse type) that was bought from sjsportscars. I’m pretty sure he has sold me the wrong brackets and hangers. Can anyone provide me with a photo or description of the mountings?

as far as I know.. they are a rubber strap with a hole each end. the hole is reinforced with a metal plate.

Thanks, looking at the parts list SJ clearly sold me the inline fixings although he knew what I had as he’d just sold me a full system.
If anyone knows the length of the strap that would be a bonus.

transverse silencer, hangar strap

can measure tomorrow. both are the same and hang from bolts facing the battery. I suggest a decent penny washer or other strengthening. PO had put a fairly hefty bit of shelving bracketry along the top, inside the boot... looked like it had all come off in the past.

That’s very helpful, here is what SJ supplied me with, the bracket clearly wrong and the strap also I think as it only measures 8 cm which has got to be shorter than the one shown in your photo.
When I offered the system up to the car yesterday (so SS manifold pipe and box) it seemed to me that the long pipe was a bit too long as the box was butting up against the recess in the body. From your photo it looks like you may have fitted a SS system, did you have any issues with fit?

Hi, been a while since I fitted it.. My project is one that I started and then it stopped for some years.

the parts you have look like those I have seen in the parts list for the straight through system. If you haven't already, I'd recommend looking at the page for the exhaust.. can be found in the wiki I believe.

from memory... I bought the exhaust from Christopher Neil I think.... I think I had to cut a section from the long pipe (3-4" springs to mind... there is a chance I may still have the offcut) .. I think the factory drawings were incorrect and they were all a bit long back in the 90s, Mine is also all SS. I seem to recall I found a hole at one of the welds of the manifold and had a friend weld it up properly. I can take a photo of how it sits in the recess.. it can be made to fit quite well, you have to do a bit of rotating of the main pipe & the box to get it to all sit close to the chassis and the tailpipe pointing in the right direction.

Yes, I found the parts list and it is quite clear that the above bracket is from the straight through box. Annoyingly SJ insisted it was correct, I told him he was wrong and should take a look at the parts list. I find SJ generally unhelpful and certainly compared to Paul Matty who I subsequently spoke to who were happy to spend 5 minutes or so trying to find what I needed. SJ no longer on my preferred supplier list! Unfortunately PM did not have the part so I have ended up buying a generic strap off eBay.
I think I will wait for some cooler weather before I try fitting it, not much fun lying under the car this weather.

Sounds like you were unlucky with who was in, at SJ. only issue I had was sorted out pretty quickly.. Their website looks to list the part...

Paul Matty also good and a few others as well..
I use Susan Miller a bit, can be tricky to get hold of her but usually works out. She has initiated remanufacturing of quite a lot of bits over the years.. so can have the unusual stuff.

Standard Transverse silencer has a single strap at the rear, but has the bracket shown to attach a second strap to the side. Bracket is fixed to body at an odd angle.

OK, this is now getting really confusing.
Firstly the guy at SJ is really annoying since he clearly was totally unaware they sold the correct strap.
Secondly, I don’t understand Craven’s comment. If you look at the parts manual it shows two straps and no brackets. I don’t understand why the two straps would attach in different ways. Craven can you explain what you mean?

mine is as shown in the parts list. 2 straps to the front of the silencer. inboard strap is 8cn long, hole centres 5cm. 3.8cm wide, metal reinforced at each hole.
the outer one looks like I made it. 11cm long, hole centres 8.5cm.. as best I can measure.

Mine is like this. straps are held by bolts facing the battery. the shield is held in by bolts on top of the body recess. I dont for sure know that this is the correct way to fit all of this, but see no other method in the parts list /WSM. I fitted mine with nuts upward, I think a domed screw ,with nuts down, would give a better look and allow a covering on the boot floor to fit.
The owner manual shows a covering and leather tool straps appear to be fitted to the hanger bolts.
