Cam cover restoration...

Hope you may find this of interest.....

The cam cover on my Elan looks as though it's been hand painted, and not very well, in fact come areas of the casting were not even free of oil when the paint was applied. Needless to say it needs redoing.
Should I leave it un painted polished Aluminium, Enamel painted or a lovely Red Crackle finish?
First step remove the paint........

I used paint stripper, then took the cam cover to Redditch Shotblasting. Pleased with the result. Polishing is a bugger of a job, the better the finish the more obvious the blemish becomes.

Sent mine to powder coating place in Grimsby, they replicated a crinkle paint finish, I just had to polish off the name and stripes, I reckon it looks pretty good. Before this it was light green hammerite paint which they stripped off.
