Is there any difference between the Inlet, Exhaust and Jackshaft gears, can they be installed in any of the afforementioned locations?
I have seen gears with EX. Marked on them, so I wonder if there are any real differences?

The position of the timing marks are different relative to the hole for the camshaft locating pin for inlet and exhaust (by one tooth as Alan says).
Either can be used on the jack shaft.
