The car rebuild has about got to the point when I put the engine back in. Phoned up Susan Miller to buy one of her two piece stainless manifolds, as luck would have it she sold her last one yesterday and new stock is about a month away.
Question: can I feed the manifold in from above or below after the engine is fitted?

I was in the exact same position before Christmas. Sue's manifolds are nicely made and fitted up to the flanges perfectly. I Gave mine a polish before fitting it too and it finishes off the engine bay nicely.
Just keep your engine crane handy and don't fit the bonnet like I did while you're waiting!

Also consider using socket head screws instead of studs for the flanges into the head. Much easier placing the header without having to get the flange over the stud ends. A couple of the nuts are difficult access as well; Allen wrench with a ball tip is easier.
