Thermostat housing, cliveyboy-style, but different

PostPost by: hansaxl » Wed Jun 21, 2017 8:54 am

dear all,

on my S4 I have a thermostat housing similar to the setup sold by Cliveyboy. The filler cap and the thermo-switch are located on the cyl head rather than at the radiator with this part.

However, the housing I have is different to Cliveyboy's, as the thermo switch points to the front of the car, and the connection to the hose points to the left-hand side of the car...

Now I need a new (upper) hose, which obviously differs from the OE one. The usual suspects do not have a hose that would fit, and the PO could not help me out on the matter either.

So, the question is: Anybody out there who is familiar with this thermostat housing and can advise on where to source the hose I need?

Thanks in advance, Cheers,

Hans

Sounds like that is the one intended for a Kent crossflow engine.
I think you will have to make a hose out of bits to fit it as no-one does a moulded one for this part in an Elan, could be wrong though.

Cheers,
Simon

Yes I have one of those and I use a silicone bend and then straight hose to complete the circuit.

I will try find a photo.

Oh yes, it is indeed the housing for the X-flow engine, as used in early Caterhams. Burton has the housing and the hoses, I will see if I can source one in Germany, though.

Thanks a lot, Cheers, H.

Hans,

Years ago someone on this web site made the same suggestion about using this thermostat housing with a hose from Gates. This hose has the number 3272. I bought this combination but have not fitted it, so cannot guarantee the fit.

The housing is from the Fiesta Valencia engine if my memory serves me right, last time I bought one for a Caterham they were readily available and cheap from Fords, maybe not so today but there will be plenty out there with other resellers.

Thanks for the info! Gates 3272 was indeed a valuable one.
