Block identification

I am finally putting the new engine together for my Elan. The block I am using came from a friends racing Super Seven and was said to be a Cosworth engine (pushrod). The camshaft broke and he chose to replace the entire engine.
I have had the block sonically tested and it is thick wall and the prep work on the block is properly done but square shoulder caps bored .015" oversize. (later mod?)
The casting number is 2715 6015 and the date seems to be 02 of 67 so no "L" in the engine mount casting.
Where the engine number would be there are just three symbols: 7 B 6 spaced apart and the 6 is a different font to the 7. Is this Cosworth numbering does anyone know?
Also, do I have to block off any oil passageways to convert to Twin Cam? I see there is an oil passageway that would feed the cam followers but it is blocked off by the Twin Cam plate at the front and a plug at the rear.
It is a Long time since I did one of these engines...

Is the 2715 stamped and the 6015 raised ? or is it actually 2731 6015? I don't think 2715 was ever a Ford casting number unless Cosworth had some special castings made with that number which they may have.
The block should need no modifications for use in a twin cam unless some changes have been made during its racing days or by Cosworth
The passage to the cam followers is a drain passage and not used in a twin cam as the followers are not present so you don't need to worry about it. It was always plugged at the rear in push rods and drained out to the front to inside the timing chain drive cover in a push rod
cheers

Hi,
I think you are rather optimistic in hoping the 7 B 6 makes a Cosworth connection.
It is simply a date stamp. Usually just a few days after the casting date on the side of the block.
If someone else can show it?s a Cosworth number then I have one as well
Ron.

Thank you Craven, that is the information I was looking for! It does tie in with the dating I had deduced from the various markings on the block that Rohan had described some time ago. So 6th February 1967 would seem to be the magic date for this block.
