ewp running report

having followed debates on here re water pump options........
PO [true gentleman...used to post on here as hatman] warned me that the water pump would need attention at some time..........turned out to be correct, but had a couple of years trouble free motoring..... [well only a very slight drip...]
anyway, loud screeching noises meant the time had come
so removed fan belt, and found play on the pulley to be considerable.....
now having had a new Lotus galvanised chassis fitted some years ago, with the fixed cross member, and no other jobs needed, I decided to go with davies craig [for the moment, at least].....
I had previously aquired an ewp80 ready for this eventuality, so purchased a few more bits and bobs,as I figured that althogh there was enough room for the pump between rad and coil/oil filter, to get the pump the 'right way up'to minimise air pockets, it would be better to have it positioned in front of the rad [original type/size]...this meant cutting a suitable size hole in the rad support bracket....
the result is not very tidy, as I re-used sections of the bottom hose, but is not 'in your face' when the bonnet is open....
drilled a 6mm hole in the thermostat as recommended, and wired up to a switch under the dash.....aim is to have continuous running, plus facility to switch pump on after a hot engine stop to reduce heat soak.
anyway, have only done a couple of short runs [4 - 5 miles?], but results are encouraging..
previously temp would rapidly get to about 87 [82 deg stat] then level off unless stuck in traffic for any time, when electric fan would kick in at about 92 deg......
with the ewp, temp climbs slowly to about 85 then levels off, .....so far have not had any traffic to deal with..
have also noticed a significant increase in power, at a guess 5-10bhp? perhaps to be expected when not driving a knackered water pump...
so, so far, would recommend this route!!

hi terry
bit embarassed about picks of my handiwork....... I tend to 'make do' with bits I've got lying around..
it's a bit dark in there, so will hang on until my daughter returns in a day or two....
her camera/phone is 'flashy'.....

pics as promised...
not very neat and tidy, I know - used too large hoseclips I already had.......to paraphrase stirling moss' comments on lotus driving, the installation is a triumph of functionality over aesthetics.....
water pump did not leak [well not noticeable]...probably sealed itself with ground up bearings + gunge
so have left well alone...
another result of installing ewp is much lower heater [cockpit] temps.... previously had heater on all year round to help with cooling....
