Camshafts

PostPost by: seniorchristo » Sat Jun 20, 2015 1:07 pm

I would like to determine the profile of my Elan's camshafts. Although the car is an S3 SE there are no grooves to indicate SE or Sprint. There does seem to be the standard Ford/Lotus part numbers however. The engine pulls super strong past 6000 so I suspect the cams may be re profiled.
Is it a simple matter of using a degree wheel and measuring opening/closing and lift of the valves with a dial indicator on the cam followers?
Thanks
Chris :)

Yes duration of lift from off seat to back on seat and maximum lift will give you a good idea of what valve grind you have.
