Crank rope seal

I have a couple of queries about this type of installation, that require confirmation.
1. I was advised that each half should be soaked in oil overnight and when fitted each half should be cut proud of the seal carrier and the sump groove. I can't find a reference in the manual or on here as to how much proud.
2. Interface with the sump cork gasket. Looking at the pictures below, it looks like the cork gasket needs to be trimmed around the protruding half of the rope seal? (Previous engine builder had fitted it splitting the rope seal, and the seal cut flush, hence it leaked oil lots!!).
Thanks
Malcolm

Never built a rope seal engine but pulled a few apart.
The sump gasket needs to be trimmed so it does not fit between the two halves of the crank seal.
I would guess you would need the seals to stick up the equivalent of the cork gasket thickness so the ends of the seals meet leaving no gap and are slightly compressed as the cork gasket compresses
cheers

Update on this, after advice obtained from Paul Matty's workshop:
1. Soak seals overnight in oil
2. Fit the two halves of the seal in the carrier and the intergral carrier in the sump, and lightly tap into place
3. Trim all 4 ends of the rope oil seal 1/8" proud of the seal carrier and the intergral carrier in the sump.
4. The sump cork trimmed as per Rohan's advice above.
5. Fit the sump using gasket adhesive to prevent the cork gasket squeezing out.
Happy building!
