Cylinder head to timing case gasket.

This is a tall block conversion so I have a spacer here. Deck to top of timing case = .273". Spacer = .273". Compressed Cometic gasket to be .030". Cork gasket .060". So my question is, will the cork gasket be likely to compress to 1/2 it's thickness. My original block's deck to timing case is .022" and the gasket is .023" so a height of .045" for the gasket. I wonder if I need to get 15 thou taken off the spacer?

It will compress that much but you may have problems with it squeezing out. Typically cork gaskets like being compressed about 1/3 their thickness. Lotus Marques / The Elan Factory used to sell the gaskets in various thicknesses, I don't know if they still do or if others do.
If you stick the gasket in place with a sticky gasket sealer like Loctite aviation gasket sealer it is less likely to squeeze out.
cheers

To stop your gasket being squeezed out,get your drill out ( helps if you have a pillar drill with depth stop on it ) and do this
both sides

Thanks for the replies.
The spacer I had is level with the deck.
The timing case on my original block measures .025" below the deck.
I checked with QED for the thickness of the spacer plate they sell - .250". So ordered that. Problem solved. Cork gasket fitted fine into space of .053".
