Dear all

Can anybody help me identifying this crank in my Lotus Twin Cam?

I was told its a Cosworth but I can't find this engraved anywhere. And I don't want to take the whole engine apart just to get is verified. The engine is newly renovated and goes fantastic.

Kind regards
Ulrik

Hi Ulrik, the crank looks like it is steel counter balanced. The big end bolts look like ARP and the rods look steel as well. Unfortunately I cannot recognise the make but does it matter?
If it goes so well why is it apart?

Looks a bit like my crank, that was made by Farndon.

But all steel billet cranks look alike, they have to do the same job so function dictates what they look like.

Unless you find some stamp marks from the maker it could be from a few quality firms.

It looks like a nice item and I would say the bottom end would be unbreakable up to 8 or 10k rev/min

No you are right - it does not really matter.

But anyway it's nice to know when you you rev it in a race. It gives a certain warm fuzzy feeling in the stomach when you know deep down that the engine is "bullet proof"

Thanks Lyn and Jon for your kind contributions

Best regards

It might also be a long stroke.

I just noticed the bottom of the bore has been relieved to clear the connecting rods.

Jon,

I think you'll find that small relief cut at the bottom of the bore to be quite common, even on stock pushrod motors.

A very nice steel crank and rods though. Usually, Cosworth rods have a forging number very evident on the cap. I would guess these are current production forged items, perhaps Farndon.
