Sprint Back boxes?

Hi all.
I'm just toying with which back box i'm going to fit to my Sprint and could do with some opinions if you don't mind.
At the moment i have two boxes a s4 twin box that i presume was originally fitted as its a little crusty but generally usable and a Peco after market back box that i found in the mountain of parts that came with the car (i think it was bought to replace the S4 boxes at some point)
Thing is i planned to fit a full stainless system but i have just seen a S4 with a Sprint looking stainless exhaust fitted drive past me whilst i was out shopping and it sounded like a mk1 Escort (really raspy and not very nice) also have a +2 that has the after market Peco back box and i have always loved the exhaust Note of it (its quite burble if that makes sense) but the +2 back box is total different to the Sprint Peco so i'm thinking that will be louder? it doesn't really bother me that its painted in Grey hammerite rather than shiny stainless as you can't see allot of it when its on anyway.
It had crossed my mind to get a TT system as i like the look of it but i'm told it won't fit with the Stock bore manifold i've just bought, so i think that may be out, i struggled enough getting the stock bore manifold in place so bigger pipes would be tight and probably require some chassis trimming..
Be interested to hear peoples opinions as i can only go off the cars i've seen at shows or drive by me and it usaly little things like this that drives me mad.

Thats Interesting, yours looks very similar to the Tony Thompson back box http://shop.tonythompsonracing.co.uk/tt ... -282-p.asp are you using the stock bore size?

Yes as far as I know... The TT has a 90 degree on the inlet side whereas the Dent/Bean(?) system has 2 45's.

My Pifco box finally disintegrated last year and I fitted a stainless replacement from Sue Miller. Perhaps not as good a burble as the Pifco but a nice rorty sound. Sue said that the mild steel ones sounded better but she cannot get hold of these any more.

Just spent the last couple of hours reading up and most people seem to like the stock S4 twin box set up but i've come to the conclusion it would look completely wrong on a Sprint even if mine may have had one from the factory, so i think i'll try the Peco box just to see if its anything like my +2 and then go to the TTR box if all else goes south (kinda like the shape and style of the TTR)
Thanks guys.

Back in the day when the S4 was introduced one of the magazine road tests (I think it was Motor?) commented that the new twin pipe silencer was quite loud - just looked it up - the terms were "rather obtrusive" in the text and "rather noisy" in a picture caption. If it was noisy for 1970 it must be well into anti social in our sanitised times. I don't know what the original mild steel one sounded like but my replacement stainless one certainly qualifies, particularly when the engine is started from cold. An early morning departure often has my neighbour asking subsequently whether the car is running well
Burbling and rorty is one thing, a headache on a long run is another. Nor only will the twin box look wrong on a Sprint, you may find it sounds wrong as well.

You may gave seen my posts regarding ground clearance , I bought a complete stainless system from Paul Matty a couple of weeks ago. Actually although I have an s4 I went for the sprint box instead , first it was cheaper about ?108 I think , also it's baffled rather than wadding that's in the twin box. PM said the twin boxes get noisey with age as the wadding blows out.
Anyway the sprint back box is great , my problem relates to the manifold angle under the car , and although low the sound is quite nice.

I'm just weighing up putting the MS Peco back box on my car at the moment and am a little confused.
I know my car is one of the S4's that was converted into a Sprint by the factory but i only have one hole for the front back box mount? (i thought it was supposed to have two rubber insulators) so i'm guessing thats one of the S4 differences? but i also thought the S4 twin box didn't have the front mount?? So my problem is i don't know where it should sit because with the box in position on the Mid pipe and the rear bracket in position the front bracket doesn't seems to line up?
It is late and i'm probably making more of this than is necessary but the Peco box seems to fit like a glove on my foot
