You'd be better off heli-coiling the head and fitting allen screws...makes an awkward job that much easier..

5/16 UNC but not sure why you'd helicoil unless there's something wrong with current threads.....
I got a set from Basil's bolts in UK, bought a crossflow set and asked him to add two and adjust price

Threads are fine in head. Couple of studs a bit ropey, that's why I thought I would change them while engine out.
My mates got a mini restoration business and has a stock of different studs. I plan to borrow some tomorrow, we'll take some.
Forgot to check, how many will I need?

Hi ,
The helicoiling idea is quite good. But generally only done if the threads are damaged. I almost did the mod the last time my engine was out but decided against. I do wish I had gone ahead though. The benefit as John said is that it makes fitting the manifolds so much easier to do.. AND you can put a little extra torque on the fasteners too if you wish / need too. Helicoils will take 1.25 x the st'd torque normally.. Check with manufacturers but 'recoil' for eg are ok with 1.25....
If you decide against .. Test fit your new studs and clean (airline?) out the holes Check the manifold lines up perfectly but don't fit your studs just yet. Wait until the motor is in and the manifold is in place, then screw the studs (with double nuts fitted to screw them in tight) through the manifold fixing holes. Way easier then trying to get the manifold into position with the studs in place...
Just MHO by the way. This is the way I do it.

Those look just like 5/16" UNC
Aren't they 5/16" UNC/UNF ?

Oops my bad. Wasn't basil (though his would do the job), was dougie1974 on eBay. Doesn't seem to have any imperials listed at the moment, but was the same as this style, with brass nuts and 5/16 UNC/UNF. Might be worth asking him, he may have them, despite them not being listed

I'd hate to try to put the manifold studs in with the engine in place,it's difficult enough trying to get the manifold onto the head whilst in the engine bay..
