Valve leakage testing

Just wanted a consensus of opinion re. checking for leaky head valves (bearing in mind I don't have an airline )

1) Water in the upturned head and wait for an hour?

2) White spirit in the upturned head and wait...

3) The above but with the head on it's side with water or white spirit in the inlet tracts,later the exhaust ports..

any other...

John,
I would go with 3 but use petrol.
I've no doubt there will be other suggestions.

2 with paraffin has always worked for me.

TBH you can usually see the evidence by looking down the ports, I use the test to verify what I suspect and that the valves havnt recently been (re)ground in
