Does any one have any info on this engine number (P28378) please?
I believe it may have been originally fitted in 5 speed +2.
The block casting shows 2K8 - so November 1972 (assuming the letter "I" was used)

Gary - thanks for your reply.
It appears that the 2 blocks were cast just 3 days apart
If the date interpretation is correct - it didn't take very long to get your engine from Dagenham and into a built car !!!

From my Plus 2 records November 1972 would be right. We can not tell if it was fitted to a 5 speed car though.
The S130/5 was introduced in October 1972 with the 5 speed gearbox being an option. Even Lotus never recorded which cars left the factory fitted with a 4 or 5 speed gearbox.

I just received some info from Andy Graham:
"The engine was factory fitted to a UK market +2S 130 that was originally invoiced from Lotus in December 1972, car manufactured around October/November. These engines originally used Webers, but a bulletin from June 1972 advises of a production change to Dellorto"
Andy references Dellortos because I mentioned to him that the engine came with these carbs.
