Has anyone used an accusump

Have used one on a bike engined race car.
Does what it says on the tin, maintains the pressure during periods where the oil pick up runs dry, no substitute for a proper dry sump system though.
An additional advantage is that it increases the oil capacity hence either reducing oil temperature or on the track increasing the time before the temp rises to a critical level.
With some additional plumbing you can also use it to pre-oil the engine and give protection during start up.
I dont think that there is anything specific to an Elan regarding an accusump.

I doubt if an Elan is capable of doing anything violently or fast enough to warrant the use of one of those.
A well baffled sump seems to cope well enough for the lubrication system with any "g" forces that it might be presented with on the track.
I'm not sure about the reg's for competition but I suspect that it might be looked upon similarly as a dry sump & not permitted.
The racers on here will be better informed
So what are you planning to do?
Cheers
John

Hi Ed
The Accusump works as advertised and I had one on my Elan for a few years until they were banned for historic racing here. I mounted it transversely just in front and below the radiator on a frame I had already built to support the horns and air cleaner and number plate. This frame ran from the body mount bolts in front of the radiator to the original number plate bolt holts in the air intake. As I have an oil cooler in the Elan in front of the radiator it was simple to tee the Accusump into the line to the oil cooler from that location.
Hard right handers in a twin cam even on the road can give you problems with oil pick and the Accusump will maintain pressure in these situations. it also gives you the ability to have oil pressure before you start the engine by storing pressurised oil on shutdown and releasing it before starting using a solenoid valve on the system..
A properly baffled sump including relocating the pickup to the sump centre (as in the earlier 120E block, 4 bolt crank engines) can also prevent the loss of pressure on hard right handers and that is what I run now in the Elan and is certainly an alternative to an Accusump.
cheers
