Aldon 103TC Distributor

PostPost by: AHM » Thu Dec 05, 2013 10:04 pm

Hi All,

After an afternoon fighting with the distributor cap I have finally broken it.

The distributor is an Aldon 103TC - Which cap do I need? what type of distributor is it?

Is there an easy way of getting the cap on? I can get the old 23D one on and off easily, but with this the leads touch the underneath of the carb and inlet.

Thanks

Same as a 43D4? You may need to machine down the body of the distributor where it clamps up, drops the distributor down and gives you clearance.

Hi

If the cap is in the correct position then it can be removed quite easily. The leads need to exit the distributor at about the 7 to 8 o-clock position. Undo the clamp and turn the distributor until its in a position where the cap can be removed easily and take note. ( check that your leads are long enough). Remove the distributor and then refit it in the correct position. As the skew gears engage make sure the rotor arm rotates back to the correct position so that only a minor adjustment is required when retiming the ignition. It helps to mark the body and rotor arm with Tipex before you start.

Cheers

Fixed with the help of Roy at PM.

Maz , Yes 43d

Nick, It turns out that I had the wrong cap - top exit - I now have the side exit set at 7 ish.

Thanks

From memory, even with a side entry plug leads the cap makes slight contact with the head and eventually shorts out, unless you machine the distributor clamping area.

The cap that PM supplied is relieved on the opposite side to the terminals. It is clear between about 4-8 O'clock as avro mentioned. The old leads are a bit tight - PM could have supplied the correct ones, but I'll make them up to fit exactly.

Maybe the 103 TC as it is specific to the application is already machined
