John,
Try Amac Engineering in Northallerton. 01609 779600. I use him for all the bits that I can't do myself.
Cheers,
John

If you would deign to look outside of the Peoples Republic of Yorkshire (valid passport permitting), this would be a good choice:

John,
Your head gasket problem is another issue but once you get inside the head things tend to get expensive, if you want a good job done that is. So I would run the car and see how is goes. If it goes OK and does not run oil down the guides then I would leave the valves etc as they are.
Others may have different suggestions.
And Jono is correct there are places outside Yorkshire, though that is hard to believe.
Cheers

I had my head done in Yorkshire, around ?200 3 or 4 years ago for crack testing, skimming, valve seats etc. Almost inevitably, these days, I can`t remember the name but it was in Sheffield about 100 yards north of the Leppings Lane entrance to Sheffield Wednesday (football club).

Dilemma really.
Car doesn't seem to blow the tiniest puff of oil - neither cold, nor hot, idling or under acceleration.
Peeking into the spark plug holes, the pistons aren't covered in black gunk.
The compression numbers are good.
The valve clearances on CYl1 inlet and exhaust are below spec and should be increased.
There is a decent oil leak (not seemingly from the dipstick) that is covering the alternator in oil and, after a 4 mile run, there is a lot of oil dripping from the sump (looks liek it has blown there from somewhere up ahead.
I think the oil is leaking from the head gasket area at the front of the engine.
Do I man up and remove the head to fix the oil leaks?
I do not have the budget to add big valves etc - so will jsut send head off for crack testing and skimming.

As above really. However from your previous posts I would get the valves sorted. The clearances you have posted could lead to burnt valves. Get the engine steam cleaned so you can see exactly where any oil leaks are comming from. Then decide.

Just pull the head and do the gaskets, if I can do it anyone can
The bits (oil, coolant and gaskets) will cost less than ?100 and you will also get to know a bit more about what you have.
See my new thread.
I think I will.
I can do all the removal.
I have a mechanic who will come to my house to refit at ?20/hr - so it is a no-brainer really.
Will check your posts for any horror stories though!
