Crankshaft Oil Seal Query

I'm having a problem fitting a new seal to the rear crank oil seal carrier.

I've b******d up one seal already.

Needless to say, I haven't got (and am unlikely to get) a drift of such a large diameter.

On my failed attempt I had previously placed the carrier into boiling water - but it soon cooled down.

What I didn't try was putting the seal in the freezer.

Any tips

Heat the carrier as before, get it hot. A smear of grease around the carrier and the seal. Large block of wood to suite the carrier and the seal. If you have the old seal intact, thats best. Old seal lined up on the new seal. Said block of wood the other side of the carrier. Into the vice. Tighten up. If you have a press, easier still. Job jobed.

You sometimes have to just tap round the seal carefully to get it properly seated in the housing.
