setting up electric fan controller

I have a Revotec fan controller with twin puller fans on a Cliveboy dense cored wide radiator.
I have not adjusted anything yet and once warm the fans run pretty much all of the time with the gauge showing just below half way on the scale (mid way = 85).
It would therefore appear that the controller may be kicking in too cool. I may check running temperature with a proper thermometer or infra red. 2 questions really:
1 What is the optimum running temperature for a TC in moderate tune
2 Would it still be necessary to retain the wax stat or should this be ditched?
Cheers

I think Mr Vizard recommends 71 degrees as best,as for the waxstat it helps the engine warm up quickly so I wouldn't bin it....

I set my adjustable controller so that the fan cuts in about 5 degrees Centigrade above the normal running temperature, i.e. average sort of day, not stuck in traffic. If it were set lower you'd be wearing the fans out, to no good purpose and on my dynamo car, flattening the battery!
The thermostat in the head sets the running temperature, so don't leave it out. The electric fans deal with inadequate air flow.
You need both.
