Timing Chain Continued

PostPost by: RichardHawkins » Sun Aug 04, 2013 6:16 pm

On July 16 I asked for advice about chain selection. Several of you provided me with help, and I said I would follow up with information if I could. It appears that Renold and Cross & Morse only offer general duty transmission chain. Neither company say as much, and I am reading between the lines.

Iwis (Germany) and Tsubaki (Japan) both make automotive timing chains. Tsubaki were unable to supply a chain of the required length. Iwis transferred my enquiry to 'The Chain Man' who is an ex Iwis employee and seems to specialise in supplying chains for cars and motorcycles.

I have been supplied with a chain G67WZ-8 120 GLD END (1 ST)

Iwis Part No: 50037136 KFZ

120 is the length (number of links)

I think (1 ST) is single strand (simplex)

I think GLD END is endless riveted.

Iwis make several chains that would fit our cars. I was unable to determin from either Iwis or the chain man what the differences are between these dimensionally identical chains.

That's exactly what we use here for standard deck height Twin Cams. Excellent choice.
