camshafts

PostPost by: hollows76 » Wed Feb 06, 2013 11:15 pm

Hi Guys,

I would like to renew my camshafts with sprint spec camshafts.

Where should I buy them from? Does anyone know who supplies QED?

Also I have been told its best to replace all cam followers when renewing camshafts is this correct? Should you just replace the cam followers since there are clearance considerations where the cam followers sits in the head?

If this is not straight forward then maybe best to have the head taken off and rebuilt?

What do people think?

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

You would also need to replace the cam bearings. Not a difficult job as you are removing the cam anyway.

Hi Chris,
I just went through the same drill. I ordered Q360 chilled cast camshafts right off QED's website. They arrived in the US a couple of days later. Q360 are QED's version of the sprint cam, lift 360 and duration 280. Depending on what you have, they will also regrind your current cams to sprint spec for 75. Can't wait to get them in. Very happy with their service.
Cheers, Dan
PS. I should mention that I was unable to locate sprint camshafts from anyone else. TTR directed me to QED. Dave Bean in the US was out. Ray doesn't carry them. I think QED is your best bet, if you want a new, non-reground set.

This doesn't agree with the data that I have. Sprint cams according to Wilkins are 272 degrees duration and are timed at 110 degrees.

Q360 are 280 degrees timed at 105 inlet and 110 exhaust from my QED data sheet from 2004. It may have changed since, of course.....

Your data is correct, that is why I referred to them as "QED's version of the sprint cam" and included the duration and lift. I asked them why they were making them that way instead of the original spec, and they said that they found it was better that way.

As mentioned in my post, they will "regrind cams" to sprint specs, or I am sure they will make a new set to those specs as well.
