Valve tip has been ground down?

i didnt valve the BV head but it appears overall better than average condition and not over skimmed
ive got some old followers i`ll see if i get better result and see if the crown inside is raised more even tophat ones (burton ) max out at 200thou i think hillman imp ones will fit HAVE SPRINT ONES AND CAN PUT THIS IN AND RECHECK IF THE RE-PROFILED CAM HAS BEEN UNDERCUT TOO MUCH CHEERS HIGGY

Check all of the above.
Also.. Possible re-profiled cams? I fitted Burton re-profiled cams (a long LONG time ago) and had to use Cosworth .200" thick blanks to reset the clearances. The extra lift came from the re profilers removing metal from the shaft base diameter which was then made up with the thicker shims which = extra lift...
About 140 hp with a different exhaust. Can't remember who's.... That + 2 s130 went like the clappers. Wish I still had it!

yes.. They were BLL 14's I had remembered and put the type on the post but then removed it again as I was unsure.
Memory is better than I thought!
I well remember having somewhat of a footer to get it all together.. It was fun from memory.

I used Vegantune VJ5 camshafts with an Ed Winter polished and ported cylinder head in my 1971 Elan Sprint, brilliant!
The valve shim sizes (thickness) when new were:
Cyl._____Inlet _____Exhaust
#1 _____0.149"____0.206"
#2 _____0.148"____0.207"
#3 _____0.146"____0.195"
#4 _____0.146"____0.197"
So no worries for you!
Interestingly, the valve shim thickness changed little over 30k miles i.e., NO valve seat recession; a fantastic engine that would run on almost any fuel without pinking...

I do indeed remeber the valve clearances:
SHIMS (again)
Cylinder____Inlet_________Exhaust
1._________0.149"_______0.206"
2._________0.148"_______0.207"
3._________0.146"_______0.195"
4._________0.146"_______0.197"
Valve clearance check:
Cylinder____Inlet_________Exhaust
1._________0.005"_______0.009"
2._________0.006"_______0.010"
3._________0.005"_______0.010"
4._________0.006"_______0.010"
And this engine remains running perfectly...

buckets are STD 210 thou
inlet cam profile or should i say re-profiling has ground away the heels nearly to the shaft-requiring a lot more shim-could have been LONG stem inlet valves in the other head or the valve seats were cut deeper.
i still have to check the timing of this cam to make sure its the 35/85 i.e the INLET!the EX 79/41 seems to have not to have been ground as much --were getting there. higgy
