Hi there
I've started to buy all my consumable items off eBay nuts and bolts included. I have only bought metric and imperial so far so I can't speak for UNF etc. But can't see them not being available there. Good thing about eBay all the items whoever you buy from arrive quite often the next day.
Regards Anthony

I'm no engineer but I'm sure I've read there is a very good reason not to use high tensile hardware - for the life of me I cannot remember why.

Generally, 8.8 is fine.
I get all my bolts (both metric and imperial) and other fastenings from Trident Racing Supplies:
www.tridentracing.co.uk
Unit 7
Silverstone Circuit

Northampton NN12 8TN

Stuff usually arrives next day or following day at the latest. Ask for a catalogue as they do a lot more than just bolts.
PS. I do not work for them or get a commission

Does anyone know a good source for UNC & UNF high tensile nuts & bolts in the UK?
These people have most things - and a shop you can go to if you live near Brighton - no connection blah blah

Oh, that is odd, I thought that it was necessary to use High-strength bolts in any places that are really stressed on cars?

The only essential one that I need in the near future is a left side engine mount bolt, which is 5/16 UNC 2 inches overall length, though Gary's photos show them a bit shorter than that 1 3/4" rather than 2".
I merely thought that If I got a 2" one, I could cut a bit off if necessary.
However I was also thinking that I really ought to get myself a general misc stock of UNF & UNC bolts as I could not find many in my junk boxes looking last week.

Could be- generally high tensile usually means less elongation, therefore though stronger once at limit will fracture with little yield before. Thought may be with mid grade and so with more yield, may provide some warning,- if observed?
