Whats a good gap...

Hi all
I have a mildly tuned twincam that produces around 155 BHP and 130 ft lbs running on twin weber 40s. I am using an Aldon distributer and have only had running problems when one of the leads decided to make a bid for freedom from the dizzy cap - otherwise the engine has been good as gold.
I took the Elan out for a run today - the first time in a while and when warm (85 degs) it decided not to start after being turned off and to run on 3 cylinders for a while. The problem eventually cleared but I am now on the diagnostic trail.
I suspect that it may be a fuelling issue ( it may even be bad fuel) but I thought I'd discount the electrics first.
So the question is - what is a good plug gap for an Aldon distributor. Does anyone know please?
The plug leads are good quality and haven't done many miles and I would be interested to hear how long they should last. They have to be at least 10 years old.
All of the plugs are showing light brown on the terminals and soot around outer ring where the threads start which is why I suspect it is fuel related.
Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Gavin
