Adjustable Head To Block Oil Drainer..

The STD rubber drainer is prone to rotting
which creates a messy streak of oil,
a polymer drainer would be better.

Previously, we employed a fixed length metal
tube drainer with flanges top & bottom to
hold the "O" rings.

An important mod required is to machine or
grind the metal flat at the block return hole so
that it will promote a proper seal join to be
made by the "O" rings.

Recently we decided to take the idea a bit further
and made an adjustable drainer which is simple
to install, we retained the external "O" rings &
coupled them with Internal "O" rings, which should
provide a pretty good seal, and hopefully eliminate
the oil streak down the side of the block.

The adjusting nut is used to apply the right
amount of pressure to the top and bottom
"O" rings to achieve a leak proof seal.

The drainer is simple to install or remove
with the head in situ.

An adjustable drainer means that no matter
what thickness gasket is used, or any other
block/head variations, the adjustable drainer
tube will work. That's the theory anyway.
All that is required now is to zinc plate the
drainer.

Hi

i made something similar a few years ago. I'll post some pictures of it later. Mine doesn't use "O" rings but relies on a silicon sealer to to the job. Not quite finished (must get around to it) needs a small amount of maching/cutting.

A variation on the theme would be to use a spring-loaded telescopic tube so that the load on the o-rings isn't too excessive. Some people just can't seem to get a threaded joint tight enough!! :shock:

I am often tempted to go spring loaded. Though it seems the mechanical would better suit.

Has anyone produced the ceejay version or some other?
