Head Helicoils

Guys,

I have two helicoils in my head that I'm not over keen on. They do blow a tiny bit (there are tiny bubbles around the base of the plugs I can see in water when I wash the engine) and when I remove the plugs the combustion is about a third up the plug thread (right colour though ). I would like to get them replaced with solid inserts and re-threaded correctly. I'm in Birmingham...any recommendations?

Performance is fine so there is no dire need, but I am keen.

The plug threads are not intended to seal. Combustion appearing about a third of the way up the plug threads is normal because these threads project into the combustion chamber to a small degree on one side of the plug.

The washer on the plug is the seal and this seals on the top surface of the head so ensure that is clean and in good conditoin and replace the pligs if you have a leak.

No real neeed to replace a helicoil if its in good condition. However you do need to ensure it has been fitted properly and none of the thread coil projects into the combustion chamber where they can break off and cause damamge between the piston and head.

If the leakage is at the plug washer, because it has been crushed too many times, it can be replaced with Champion part number N-678 (a new washer).
