BDA/BDG reproduction blocks

PostPost by: lotslow » Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:19 am

There are different suppliers for BDA/BDG blocks on the market (Burton, Wilcox, Quaife? ) Do they use the same producer or are there different ones with different Block qualities?

Peter, I do believe there are at least two different ones. One carry the Ford logo, the other don't....Sometimes this is a requirement for scruteneering. I have no idea of the quality differences, but a guy like Geoff Richardsson, of G...R... Engineering ( check his website !)will be able to tell you. Furthermore, some come with nicaseal bores, others not, and Geoff will for sure be able to advice you what you should choose.....

Both the tall BDA/Formula Ford block and the shorter Twin Cam cylinder blocks are now available from Ford Motorsport. These are a direct replacement block in standard bore(81mm for the tall "uprated"block and 82.5mm for the Twink) and have many improvements like the main bearing saddle design, improved thrust washer configuration, contempoary casting accuracy as well as very thick cylinder walls for easy over size bores. Not cheap but the ultimate iron block for these engines and no more mucking around with tired old cylinder blocks needing a variety of expensive repairs. Should really drop the price of used blocks a lot.

Out of interest Jeff, how does one contact Ford Motorsport for further details?

elan-f15/ford-kent-engine-back-production-t19684.html

The above link is to a topic on the recently introduced Ford blocks. There is not a lot of info as of yet other than pricing and some general specs on the 2 different blocks.
Ken Anderson and I talked in late October about them and he was going to try to talk with Mose Knowland at the SEMA show earlier this month. I haven't heard from him since then so I guess I need to email him and see whats going on.

- I see that Cosworth promote their own original BDG alu block with logo....SAS engineering says they machine their BDG blocks from "original Cosworth castings" , so maybe there is only one casting for the 2l. alublock...... (???)- at least with Ford-logo...

You can find Ford Racing dealers in the US at this link:
http://www.fordracingparts.com/wheretobuy/main.asp

I am not sure of the best contacts in the UK but this might help:

Ford Racing dealers are plentiful in the US. I have a 1600 version on order from my local dealer, Forte's Parts Connection in Framingham, Massachusetts. These items are real and in stock. Forte's normally deals with US marketed V8s but they knew exactly what I was talking about when I walked through the door. I ordered on November 10th and should see it in two or three days. I could have gotten it faster if I wanted to pay freight but I opted to wait until Forte's had a large stock order coming in.

Thanks all for answering my question.

Concering the new Kent block I assume that he will be good for 86 mm bore, but not for 90 mm.
If you (Russ) should get your new block, perhaps you will be able to inform us about the quality.

I bought a 90mm 4 bolt main nickaseal Alloy Block from KAM Developments in the UK several years back
I think Gordon Parks at 'Blue Sky Racing' is the US agent now. It did not have a Ford Logo.
