engine numbers

can anyone help,i have an elan with engine number f8526lba,how do i find out if this is the original engine,or if its been changed at anytime,and if so when it was changed,or what the original engine number was. :?: rgds

Pete, you`re so terse.........but I like you anyway, you`ve got such good taste. The original number should be on the VIN plate which should be under the bonnet on the flat area by the fuse box. I doubt there`s any way of finding WHEN there might have been an engine change, if there has, other than contacting any previous owners. The DVLA will provide a list.

Generally its easier for some of us to help with a Unit Number or Chassis number than to start with an engine number. That said, contact Andy Graham at Lotus, The last I knew he was in possession of whatever records Lotus has. He can give you as much as he has available. Contact for Andy is
