width of engine blocks

Hi Folks
I understand that the width of Ford type blocks that can be found in elans and +2's can vary ( in as much as some recon and rebuilds are based upon cross flow blocks.
Anyone know the difference in width between the engine mounting positions ( the 4 tapped 5/15"UNC holes) on each side of the block?
difference between a 681F6015BA Lotus selected "L" block block and a 711M6015BA is the specific parts I an interested in.

The 711F block is exactly 1/2" wider across the mounting faces than the 681F.
The difference is on the exhaust side mounting face only.
