ACL Rod bearings

Working with my machinist we had a problem fitting ACL rod bearings in my twin cam. The diameter changed by up to .002 " with bearings from the same set in the same rod. One combination would have resulted in no rod bearing clearance at all. I trashed the ACL bearings and fitted Clevite bearings and all the diameters came up the same with good clearances to the crank. My machinist thought the ACL bearing length varied too much so the crush was distorting the bearings. Anyone else have problems with ACL bearings? I have a set of ACL cam bearings for the head and I wonder if the are ok.

Hi Wayne
I have used ACL bearings for years with no problems - they are made locally here in Australia. i guess you can always get a bad set thats out of tolerance on thickness or length which is why you always want to checked assembled journal clearances.
I would hope the cam bearings are OK - never had a problem with the ACL ones there either but you do need to check clearances when you assemble.
cheers
