Major componenet oil consumption

Hey all,
Just looking for any info on how much oil cars get through for the engine, gearbox and diff.
Especially the box and diff.
I know the engine uses some because of the design but not sure how much, if any, should be used by the others (and how much I should panic).
Oh, and I did have a search around but couldn't find anything, but if you know of a thread I'll gladly read that instead.

Hi Dave,
My plus 2 engine uses about a quarter of a litre max per 5,000 miles mainly due mainly to a couple of small drips here and there, never needed topping up tween yearly service, mileage being around 5,000 a year.Diff and gearbox dont use any and shouldnt unless leaking..
Ian.

Thanks!
Looks like they are all leaking
The diff isn't too bad and has cleared up a bit with frequent use, but the gearbox is pretty bad. Seems like there could be a few reasons for this too having read the service books I have.
The engine is using more than that too, but it is mainly coming from the dip stick (not sealed) and the cam cover filler (seal is probably shot after nearly 40 years without being replaced. It does drip a little when stationary, but like the diff, not that much.
Starting to want to do a nut-and-bolt check, clean and replace on the car, but that will have to wait until the winter, assuming we have found somewhere for the XI to live by then
