Recommended Sealant

What is the best sealant for the brass plugs (head oil gallery)adjacent to exhaust ports 1 and 4?.

Colin,
On my engine those plugs have heads on them so I just use a copper washer.

Are they straight or tapered threads? If tapered, ptfe tape. Straight, Loctite 577 thread joint sealant. I use it on my aluminium sump drain on my Mini and no leaks.

Haven't pulled them out yet. Wouldn't be surprised to find a tapered thread, the head size is 1/4 Witworth. Was leaning toward ptfe, but now that John has mentioned it, I think copper washers may have originally been fitted and have gone missing during the overhaul.
