Jackshaft

With my engine now in pieces I have the opportunity to do things.
As I don't use a mechanical fuel pump it seems reasonable that I should cut the jackshaft in half, plug the rear bearing oil hole and reassemble.
Is this as reasonable as I've said?

Yes as easy as that Brian, in fact easier:-
Push out the rear Bearing Shell & replace with the Oil Hole rotated out of position = Blanked off.
You might also find someone with a Lathe who would Turn off the redundant Cam Lobes from the Jackshaft.
Not necessary but sort of "tidy"

I did this. Cam lobes interfered with my stroker, so I made up a jig for the grinding wheel and removed 'em.
Will post photo when virus removed from my main PC

Past the point of no return - jackshaft now cut in half. Must find something the right diameter to get the shell out.
I have to admit that the cam lobes bothered me regarding a balance issue. Four lobes now ground down. I was surprised how deep the chill went - too hard for turning.

Isn't that cheating?
I found a 1.1/4" A/F socket to be the perfect diameter - 60 seconds and the job was done.

It has been done. I did it on may Dad's little 3 1/2" lathe with 1/4 HP Motor with a Centre to support the free end.
It did admittedly make horrible graunching noises & seemed to jump around in the process.
Oh the innocence of youth
