uncut never bored "new" 701M "L" block found, now for sale

I have an uncut never-bored 701M block for sale. I hope it's okay to post this here. I just thought that I would let the Lotus Elan group get first shot at it. It should be on eBay (US) by now. just search for "Lotus block", it came with a huge pile of spares and cars and motors that I got when I bought out two sets of project cars. The block had been fitted up as a short block, but never used. The full history and condition are in the ebay advert. I had it checked, dipped and magged as well as honed a bit because of some surface rust but it is still within new specs. I will be selling the crank ( cut to .010/,010 because of light rust on the journals) soon.

Trying to restore my 71 Plus2 and the pile of spares has been very helpful, but I can finally let some other neat things (complete race engine, maybe even a S1 body and a Spyder chassis if I can't hang on to them) go soon, it all depends on the house rule: "The cars have to pay for themselves"...

If it's okay, I let you all know first via this forum before I send things on to eBay. I wasn't certain of the protocol.

I thought about that but I was hoping to give the listers a first crack at it. I will use the classifieds for the other stuff. But I do seeothers either pointing to ebay items so I thought this one time and took into account the rareity of the item. thanks for the guidance. Andy

Looks very interesting.

When BMW roadgoing iron blocks were used for racing (was it the 1.5 litre turbo? I can't remember), they used second hand blocks because they said at the time that used block had the stresses relieved out of them.

True. There were a few interesting stories about other things done to "age" the blocks. In addition, I remember the use of a Chevy V8 block from old school bus being used as the basis of an Indy engine - many years ago when the rules called for stock blocks!! Same reason. 8)
