I used the QED mix for my "new" block.
When it had dried, I felt it was too dark a grey.
I remember the original grey as being more of a halfway house
between the QED grey and silver.
But then, I remember lots of things,
And forget more.
Wnen the fuel pump fails it'll likely be an engine out job, so if anyone
can determine the "correct" grey, I'd like to be ready.
Regards,
Stuart.

Hi Stuart,
Just looking through the Wilkins book and all he says is the nearest equivalant to Lotus Grey is Massey Ferguson Stonleigh Grey enamel to which one should add a 'little' blue enamel. quite how much a little is, without a colour reference, anyone's guess..!
Sorry no further information
Robbie

Although I don't an Elan yet (Hoping to aquire one in the next 12 months) I purchased Brian Buckland's 'Rebuilding of a Lotus Elan' to gain further knowledge of what is required to be an Elan owner, at the moment after reading it I don't know if it has made me keener or has given me some doubts. Anyway he uses QED Dark Camouflage Grey to BS381C 62 for painting engine blocks and if Brian says it is acceptable who am I to argue with him.

Like Dusty I went for the Frosts Wrinkle red and QED Grey.
In fact at first glance I thought the picture was of my engine!
I probably have half a can of each somewhere, if you are near West Sussex...

I have to say that does look the business - mine is currently very sad looking and I am very tempted to whip the top off and get the red paint out now... would raise the tone of the engine bay a treat.
