i picked up my newly rebuilt 5 speed box to replace my 4 speed with. the question is what oil to use,is it engine oil as it was a maxi gear set,or can i use a semi/fuly synthetic oil? the box wont be fitted for a while yet so i intend to fill it up and turn it over every now and then.
also picked up my newly rebuil diff of 3.5 to 1. adviced to use a 90 oil.any one got any recomendations of brand?

I am preparing a 5 speed to be fitted during the winter.
I shall use Redline MTL as it made a significant difference when used for the first time in the standard 4 speed box.

When I fitted an ATB diff I asked what oil should be used and was told any good quality EP90 would be more than adequate.
When I asked about gear box oils - "do you have a couple of hours to spare?" was the response.

im looking hard at an atb diff, are they worth it on a plus 2 with 5 speed and a little extra power? i was adviced to go 90 on the diff oil too,as for the box it was origonally on engine oil,so im thinking a semi/fully synthetic but would prefer to use the same in both the diff and box,is it possible ep90 can be used in the box too?

Use Redline MTL which is a 75W / 80 GL4 spec oil in the gear box - maximum syncro life and best gear change performance
Use Redline 75W / 90 Gear Oil in the diff. The is a GL5 spec gear oil suitable for hypoid diffs and is the correct viscosity rating
The main difference between a GL4 and 5 oil is the GL5 spec has additional sulphur based and other additives to reduce wear in sliding tooth contact that occurs in the hypoid gear design in differentials. You dont want to use a GL5 oil in the Gearbox because the additives can attact the brass syncro rings and reduce their life and you dont need it becasue you dont have sliding gear tooth contact in the helical gearbox gears
