just in from a brisk toot and final balance of the carbs when a thought struck me[no not the Uber freu with a mallet ] the manual recommends 800 rpm idle and I have always questioned if that was enough to keep the intake cam oiled and avoid wear ----I usually set it at 1000 ----ideas???? ed

Hi Ed ,
On mine , running Hi-lift 420 cams , my engine builder set the idle arround 1100tr/mn and recommend to run a minimum on static stab and avoid club parad laps ... That I do.
So 1000tr/mn sound Ok for your ex-racer . The only difference with 800 is more gas burned but also more oil pressure ... No !?!
Christian.

Once the cam and bucket have been bedded in during the running in period a low idle should not be a problem. during runnign in avoid extened idle speed and high rev operation

Off course that assume you have everything else done right in terms of spring pressures, cam and bucket materials, running in procedure and lubes etc that i have posted on previously

cheers
