Am I missing something or has the seller accidently typed an extra zero on the end of the price?
Discuss.

I was offered this a couple of weeks ago, but it disappeared before I got to look at it...and I'd just bought chassis 24.
A couple of things to check out if anybody is seriously interested. Firstly, there wasn't really a BRM Plus 2. Mike Spence offered a tuning package for the Europa, Plus 2, Elan and Twin cam Escort / Lotus Cortina. This provided a better exhaust, bigger valves, modified ports, cams, skimmed head and re-jetted carbs. Quite a few twincam cars had this mod.
If there was an official 'BRM Plus 2', the first owner would be Mike Spence garage, and the registration number would be from the Reading area, where it was first registered. Something to check out with the seller. I suspect it's just a Plus 2 that's had some BRM mods done in period. Does that make it worth any more that another Plus 2? Well, maybe a bit, but remember that as this car hasn't been on the road for over 20 years, the exhaust, cams, valves and carbs will probably need doing anyway, and with a skimmed head....maybe a new head is required?...end of BRM stuff.
It certainly isn't like a BRM S3 Elan, which had the special paint job as well, and was sold as a BRM Elan.

Certainly looks like it, Terry...well spotted.
The registration number is SRX....a Reading number. DAMMMN. Why didn't I spot this on eBay????!
But I think that the guy who bought it on eBay probably paid enough for it

Well I'll be.....Do you think it would be rude to offer him ?2945 for it??!!
Incidentally, regarding Flat Eric. If your bass speaker is too close to the engine, and Eric is banging continuously, this could be causing your recent oil leaks....low frequency waves.....
Just a theory you understand.

Well he needs to make a profit....?2995 sounds fair to me...Sleaford to Stafford is about 40 quid in fuel, plus half a day's work at forty quid in today's recessionary times. Bob's your uncle. Everyone's a winner.
What do you reckon the premium would be for a well sorted +2 with BRM bits? about 20% more than a standard one?
I am now an ex-Elan owner but will drop by from time to time with some suitably inappropriate comments.

I guess so, Rich. It's certainly an interesting car, and that Reading registration adds credibility to it being BRM modified from new (Mike Spence garage was near Reading, and that's where all the BRM mods were done). If it was a standard Plus 2, it would sell for probably ?2500 in that condition, so maybe a premium of a grand or so for the BRM connection? And really, that's if it has some written history with it...first owner Mike Spence, invoices etc. Otherwise it's just another twincam modified in the 70s...or even just a cam cover.
I bought my BDA Plus 2 a couple of years ago. One owner, perfect paint, perfect chrome, rebuilt engine, perfect interior but needing a chassis change (I got a new chassis with it). That was ?7500 with new chassis, and it has all documentation from new, including a write up on the car done by Motoring news in 1973. The engine Lotus should have put in the Plus 2 was how they described it! (the zetec hadn't been invented then!!). That's ?1000 less than this guy wants for this wreck of a car. I know which I'd prefer for the money.
Yep, I think ?3500 is absolute top money for this one, and that may be a bit generous. Then again, an original BRM cam cover would be ?500 on eBay.

No complex here, John. And I'd have a Zetec in an Elan in a flash if I could do the job you've done in yours!!
