Engine Oil Capacity

Firstly the car was level , the oil drained when hot, I replaced the oil filter. I've now put in 5 litres of oil and its not full yet. Its after the first fill mark on the dipstick but a good 6mm from the full mark
I've checked the manual and it should be about 4 litres.
Any ideas? I have the 105E dipstick
The sump looks as it may have been replaced when the engine was rebuilt by QED in about 1990

Hi Terry,
Check that the dipstick tube is inserted far enough into the front cover. The correct length is given on page 26 of section E of the manual - 4.1 in (10.47 cm) from the sump mounting flange to the top of the tube. If that's OK and you have the correct dipstick the sump must have a larger than standard capacity.
Regards,

Thanks for that, tube OK and overnight now I'm nearer the full mark, so I must have a slightly larger sump
Although doing a few calculations the 7.5 UK pints is about 4.26 litres so to be fair its probably little over a pint more
Cheers

Hello
Well looks as if I'm the most stupid person on the forum
I was getting an oil spray from the filler , i.e. overfilled
I checked the dipstick again and realised it was bent!!!!!!!!! (Not by me by a PO)
So because it goes in at an angle , with the bend it was reading way out!
A lesson learnt!
