Spyder Engineering up for sale

The news doesn't come as much of a surprise to me (if it's true).
Back in the late nineties, when I had dealings with them they were struggling for new contracts.
They have built a variety or parts for differnet companies but I don't think any of their bigger projects really took off
e.g. "Spyder Silverstone".
The Elan chassis' & suspension parts has been the "backbone" of their business & as they mentioned back then, that is a limited market.
The increased desire for originalty in Elans will also be having an effect on their business coupled with the present economical enviroment.
My advice is that we should all of us buy a Spyder Spaceframe now
But joking apart they do make life easier when working in the engine bay
Cheers

Anybody here want to buy it?
Steve,
Can you point me to which page in the magazine? Jiggered if I can find it.
If they're on the skids, I'll order a (nother) chassis tomorrow.
Cheers,
Pete.

The article says that the "thriving company" is up for sale due to the retirement of the owner Geoff Price who has owned the company since 1973. He must have been very behind the scenes - I remember Vic Moore from the 1980s and Andy is the main man now - but have never heard of Geoff Price!

As one of those building Zetec cars, I certainly hope the business is thriving and Andy will keep it going.
If not, we need to keep an eye open for a closing down sale to get all those necessary parts. How we would manage without Andy's knowledge is another matter altogether.

It does say that they are in discussion with a Lotus enthusiast who is interested in buying the company. If so, that will be a good move for the Elan community. However, many a slip twixt cup and lip.....

Spyder have always seemed a bit wierd to me, as in I've dealt with a couple of others there, but Andy is the real 'face' of Spyder, though he didn't seem to be anything to do with the ownership. I hope Andy can fund an MBO or something, without him there is no Spyder, IMHO.
They do work for other low volume manufacturers, I think. I seem to remember getting boxes of bits with old labels for Radical and others.
